You might think homebrewing is a new trend but we’ve got ancestors that can prove us wrong. During premodern times, alcohol was considered safer to drink than regular water because alcohol was considered more sanitary. Today drinking is more of a social activity where people drink to relax and have fun with their friends. Homebrew not only enables you to make alcohol with ease, but it also offers other perks that some people may not know.
1) Let the Fun Begin
One of the things that everyone says about homebrew is that it is really fun to do. Homebrew offers a similar approach to cooking, only that you are making alcohol which instantly makes it more fun. The process is simple and offers a pleasant, relaxing activity to do after a long day at work.
2) All Naturalé
To make homebrew, it is extremely important that the base ingredient being used it 100% natural with no added preservatives or artificial flavorings. This is because it will interfere with the fermentation process. Homebrewing also gives you the assurance that you know what is inside your drink, therefore not having to worry about artificial ingredients that may affect your health.
3) "Imagination has no age"
Homebrewing allows your imagination to take over as you can create your own recipes. The beauty of this is that it allows experimentation to flourish and gives you the opportunity to try new tastes that you would not have the opportunity of usually trying.
4) Your Wallet Can Breathe
While it may seem that buying an automated homebrewing machine may be pricey at first, it actually isn’t that expensive in the long run. So, let’s see how much buying alcohol actually costs. An average bottle of wine costs around $15.66 USD. If you buy one every week for one year the total cost will be around $815.32. If you drink two bottles of wine per week, the total cost will double to $1,628.64. The number keeps on going up if you drink more. For automated homebrewing machines, while the initial cost will be around $400 the costs afterwards will just be on ingredients from the supermarket. If you are making apple cider, a 3lbs of apples cost around $3.94, 10lbs of sugar costs around $5.72, and a bag of yeast costs around $6. Add that all up you get $15.66. So ideally you will be spending $15.66 dollars on 0.6 gallons of apple cider, while you would be spending the same for 0.1 gallons of wine.
