Blackberry is a pretty common bush species you can find in the wild in the United States. Juicy and sweet, blackberry is one of people's favorite berries. Blackberries are a good source of iron, vitamin C and antioxidants. You can eat fresh blackberries, make it into blackberry jam or turn it into a dessert, like cobbers. 

Unlike some berries or other fruit which will continue to ripen after they are picked, blackberries stop ripening after they are picked. So they are best picked when they are fully ripe. 

You may notice that blackberries come in all sizes and shapes. That's because the blackberry is not just one species. The blackberry is an "apomictic" group with each member within it forming a micro-species. 

Same as the blackberry, the blueberry is also rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. Blueberries also need to be picked when fully ripe, too. Since they stop ripening after picked up. 

These two berries just make good partners in mead-making!
