It’s spring! 2 of our team just came back from The International Home + Housewares Show, a big annual trade show in Chicago. We always feel so fortunate to meet people from all over the world and hear what they have to say about Alchema, but nothing is more exciting than running into our Kickstarter backers! We feel so warmed and inspired by talking to them. We won't let you down!
The new accessory—Alchema funnel
In our last update, we mentioned we need to make some adjustments to our mockup in order to fix some minor bugs and improve the user experience. We’ve decided to add a new accessory–"Alchema funnel", a removable funnel which helps your ingredients to slide smoothly into the pitcher rather dropping elsewhere. The accessory is free and will be included in the package of your Alchema. You can check the full process of how we assembly the parts and how the funnel works at the gif below. (It’s all white because we haven’t apply paint on it in order to make sure the size of each part is not affected by the coat of paint.)
In terms of other problems to be solved, we found the opening and closing of the lid and the front door are much more smoother in this mockup, comparing to the last one. Now the design is all set, for the next step, we are working closely with our manufactury and will start the tooling process early next month. Once we have the molds ready we will run a pilot run and make sure each mold does its job and produces exactly what we want, then finally we can run the larger quantity and ship your Alchema to you.
App and recipes
In the past month, we’ve finished the “Filter” function on the Explore page where you browse and look for recipes you like. With the filter button on the top left corner, you can choose to view recipes containing certain kind of fruit, fruit type, yeast type, or other spices. This will make you find specific recipes with the ingredients you have.
On the recipe side, we are currently running experiments to optimize our algorithm which predicts the fermentation time. At the same time, our cider master is playing with Cascade hop and put it into fermentation of apple juice, to create a cider which has the aroma of tangerine and beer. It tastes like a blend between beer and cider, which is very interesting. We brought it to the houseware show and the feedback was very positive, therefore we've decided to add it into the 1st batch of recipes on the Alchema app. Hope you guys will enjoy it!
That’s it for this month’s update. If you have any questions/comments, we are happy to hear you as always.
