2020, A Year For Experiments

1 Jan 2020

2020 has arrived. It’s the time of year where you tell yourself, it’s time to become the “you” that you have always wanted to be. While you might have said the same thing last year, this year is going to be different. THIS year is the start of a new decade, so this is when you really start your New Year’s resolutions.

While you may be thinking of something ordinary like going to the gym more or learning a new skill or hobby, we at Alchema have a resolution that we think you may like. Take more risks.

It may seem complicated, but we assure you, it’s not. It can be something small, like taking a different route to work or eating at a new restaurant you haven’t tried before. We just want you to get a feeling of wonder and anticipation, the kind you feel when you do something new, and you have no idea what the outcome will be. In a way, this feeling is captured when you are homebrewing.

When you homebrew, there is that wonder of what is going to happen. The process can either be a success or a lesson to be learnt. We at Alchema don’t really think any undertaking ends in failure; after all, unexpected outcomes are just lessons we can learn from. So, the worst thing that can happen with experimenting with something that ends in an unexpected way, is that you wouldn’t need to do it again if you’re not too keen.

After all, what is the alternative? Either you’re not exactly pleased, or you discover an end result that you end up loving and enjoying. At the same time, you get to experience the quiver of anticipation when you do something new. Deciding between doing something new against doing something familiar might be an easy choice, but what choice can bring you down a new path, and with the promise of more fulfilment?

So, as you look into what you should start doing in this new decade, we’d like to invite you to think about taking more risks. The outcomes are definitely worth it, and you might learn a thing or to. Who knows, you might end up creating an amazing new homebrew that will blow everyone away.
